Delicious Food
Redefining Camp Cuisine
Manitou serves the finest food in camping in our brand-new 8,500 square-foot, 520-seat dining hall. Four chefs - lead by celebrated head chef Katie Brown - prepare the meals and a baker prepares bread and pastries daily in our bake shop. Candy and other light snacks are available from the canteen.
Waiters serve meals family-style with no limitations on seconds, supplemented by three salad bars. Alternate and vegetarian courses are always available. There are "formal dinners" on theater nights, and cabin barbecues one night a week. Milk and cookies are served after evening activities. During "lazy morning" on Sundays, campers can stroll to the dining hall at their leisure for buffet-style doughnuts, danish, cereal, or fruit as well as custom made omelettes.
Chefs Rob and Annie West are a special team. They come to Manitou from the coast of sunny Florida where their lives were joined forever in an oceanfront yard. After years of urging from friends, family, and their catering clients, Rob and Annie began to cook full time in 2001. They worked at several top universities in the country during the winter and at a camp in Bar Harbor, Maine for the summers. Their talents go way beyond food service, as the two have worked as a crab fishermen, florists, and even put together an international film festival.
In 2006, they left the states to pursue a dream of theirs and live in Europe, learn the languages and the cultures of France, followed by twelve other countries. They had an amazing experience and returned to share their knowledge and appreciation of other cultures, and it's food. Now they seek out on another dream at their new summer home, Camp Manitou.
