The Island Swim, a long-time Manitou tradition when JD and Dave were campers, is as popular as ever.

Campers and staff have the opportunity to swim a half mile to Birch Island, and a half mile back, spotted by patrol boats and lifeguards on Sunday mornings. All those who complete the swim receive their Island Swim badge of honor.

The swim has many merits; maybe the biggest being the sense of accomplishment from each of the participants, and sharing that with their fellow swimmers.
