Manitou’s medical staff is on hand in the Health Center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the summer. The nurses, health aid, EMT and doctor are completely devoted to the well-being of every camper.
Infirmary call hours are 9am until 8pm daily. The medical staff can be reached by phone through our main line: (207) 465-2271 and email: . There is also a dedicated after-hours phone line that will be given out as needed.
If case of an emergency, medical staff will call you immediately and indicate that the call is an emergency. You may also be called if your child stays in the Infirmary overnight, or needs antibiotics. If you receive a call from the Infirmary regarding a medical issue, the purpose of the call will be stated clearly at the outset.
For all non-emergency calls and emails, please allow a 24 response time. Volume in the health center is greatest after meals and before bedtime. The best time to call is usually mid-morning or mid-afternoon.
For any camper that needs medication over the summer, we ask you order through PackMyRx.
All food served at Manitou is nut-free and prepared by trained chefs experienced in accommodating food allergies.
Camp Manitou is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and spends weeks each year developing and training staff. Physical and emotional safety is the #1 priority at camp and all rules, policies, and procedures have been established with this commitment in mind.
The ACA collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at your child’s camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based, standards in camp operation. To maintain its accreditation, Manitou undergoes an annual review of its operations – from staff qualifications and training to emergency management (up to 300 standards in all). Camps and the ACA form a partnership that promotes growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.
