As we get ready to celebrate our 75th reunion and the start of our 2022 summer, we want to let you know about some changes you’ll see on campus this summer. Several years ago we chose to move away from the use of Native American imagery in our logo. Guided by our goal to create a community of respect and a welcoming place for all, Camp Manitou has updated the floor of Alumni Hall to reflect our current camp logo. This replaces the old floor which included the Native American imagery from our previous logo. We have also replaced plaques in the dining hall that used similar imagery. Utilizing such imagery has had unintentional negative impacts and so we make this change, which reflects our values, in an effort to create a place where everyone feels welcome.
Throughout the year members of our leadership team have met to discuss issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion at camp. This is the right move to create a safe and welcoming environment for all. We are excited to be moving forward and looking ahead as we will continue, as always, to honor our history. We believe this change is in line with our core values and will help to create a more inclusive space for our campers, staff, alumni, and visitors.
We’re happy to talk with anyone who has any questions or would like to discuss more.
